Every year an event called Earth Hour occurs in the world as countries globally darken their lights at 8:30 pm local time to encourage people, businesses and communities to turn off electric lights for one hour.
United Nations chief Antonio Guterres sustained that solutions are “available, affordable, practical and realistic”, warning that pollution, biodiversity loss and climate breakdown “threaten lives, jobs and health”, while calling 2021 the year to change course.
Small actions can make a big difference. Guterres is convinced that we can provide renewable energy and sustainable food systems for all and in the meantime we can reduce emissions and use nature-based solutions to build a more resilient, carbon-neutral world.
“In this make-or-break year, let our actions and voices send a clear message to leaders everywhere: now is the time to be bold and ambitious”
he concluded.
